ORIENTATION WEEK WITH THE STUDENT AND YOUTH TRAVEL ORGANISATION (SYTO) GHANA

SYTO orientation week is a great chance to know more about Ghana and learn
the customs, traditions and language which will give you a great opportunity to interact with Ghanaians and so better understand the people and their culture.
The orientation week is the first step towards a great stay in a new country! It’s an action packed and fun filled week that is dedicated to getting to know Ghana in all its cultural aspects with a firsthand live in experience. You will also get time to meet and make friends with other participant’s, taste the local cuisine and get familiar with Ghanaian customs. You will learn about the Ghanaian culture, local language. You will visit some of the local industries that serve as the backbone of Ghana's industrial revolution and that tend to bring forth creativity in the Ghanaian.. You will pay a courtesy call to one of the local chiefs, visits the atmospheric market to learn and perfect the art of bargaining, and how we conduct our business and trades, the Ghanaian style! and many more.

This program below is written to give you an idea of the orientation week:
Mondays
1 and ½ hours Learning and Interaction about the Ghanaian culture in the morning to have an increased understanding of family life and the various tribes in Ghana.
4 hours free time to relax at the Beach in the afternoon.

Tuesdays
1 hour Language and Communication lessons in the morning. A historical overview of languages in Ghana with special emphasis on some often spoken Akan vocabularies in all parts of the country. Through an exciting and interactive course you will learn the basics of these wonderful and expressive language. Language games and interaction with native speakers will reinforce your formal learning
Rate: $5.50
5 hours City tour in the Afternoon. Pay a courtesy call on Chief, the custodians of the land are the traditional leaders of the people, who have been given powers by the ancestors to protect and safeguard the people of the land, Visit to the National Museum, scenic drive passing the following: sports stadium, National, Conference Centre, Parliament House and Independence Square. A visit to Makola market and a final visit to selected local industries.

Wednesdays
1 hours Language and Communication lessons in the morning
Rate:$ 5.50
2 ½ hours Traditional Music Drumming and Dancing in the afternoon..You will be faced with the temptation of experiencing bits of most of the drumming and dance familiar with most of the different ethnic groups in Ghana. Different dancing troupes will be engaged to demonstrate how it’s done. The activities will include practical lessons in drumming and dance, lessons in folk tales and the messages imbedded in the songs and the meaning of the drum beats, as well as the uses of the various drums in the ensemble

Thursdays
2 hours Cooking lessons and Tasty diets in the morning. Storm the traditional kitchen of experienced local chef and learn how to prepare Ghanaian local delicacies

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

Student & Youth Travel Organization (SYTO) is a non profit, non governmental and African organization of considerable local and international repute. SYTO was created because of the need to develop travel opportunities for youth that would provide more in-depth intercultural interactions.
SYTOs mission is to expose students to other parts of the world to promote understanding, knowledge acquisition and the development of skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world.
SYTO offers programmes such as Volunteering in Africa, Summer Study Abroad Programme, Non-paid Internships in Africa, Study Tours such as Learning African Drumming, Dancing and Language. They also offer Academic Placement Abroad as well as Youth and National Volunteering Programmes.
Since its establishment in 1994, SYTO has supported many Students, Youth, Educators, Institutions, community based Organizations and developmental organizations through services, training, exchange programs, networking and has achieved a credible status as a major national service oriented Student and Youth organization.
