Over de Ghana Day 2009
On behalf of CoGhaN, the Ghana Day 2009 Committee hereby invites you to attend the 5th annual Ghana Day scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 4th November, 2009 at the City hall of the Almere.
The Ghana Day 2009 Committee works under the auspices of CoGhaN (Council of Ghanaians in the Netherlands) and in cooperation with:
Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ghana, Ghana Embassy in The Netherlands, Almere Municipality, Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dutch NGO’s working in Ghana, the Dutch business community in Ghana, Ghana Diaspora Platform and the Ghanaian community in The Netherlands.
The main objective of the event is for those involved in business and development cooperation between Ghana and The Netherlands, such as government officials, diplomats, policy makers, representatives of NGO’s, business partners and individuals to meet and discuss issues concerning their partnerships, as well as providing an opportunity for fruitful networking. Find below the programme and summaries of the seven workshops to take place at the event.
Workshop 1
‘Invest in Ghana, Africa’s Golden Gateway’
This workshop is to serve as a platform for showcasing Ghana as an attractive place to do business. The workshop will have two parts; the first part will start with a 30 minute presentation by the facilitator, Mr. George Aboagye, Chief Executive Officer, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, and the second part will be an open forum for discussion. Both the presentation and discussion will deal with all issues concerning business and investment in Ghana
Workshop 2
‘Aburokyere - leaving Ghana for greener pastures’
This workshop centers on the film ‘Aburokyere’, which shows the impact of migration within Ghanaian communities abroad and their families back home. After screening the film (42 min) a discussion will take place around topics as: pressure of family, migration policies, economic migration, returning home, dual citizenship, etc.
Workshop 3
‘Regional cooperation between higher education institutes; impact on development in particular Water and Sanitation’
This workshop organized by the UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education in Delft, will explore existing links between higher education institutions in Ghana and the West Africa region. It will address how these linkages (should) increment the critical mass and what is their impact on local and regional capacity to contribute to development objectives, in particular to the Millennium Development Goals related to Water and Sanitation.
Workshop 4
‘What is your Communication Strategy?’
This workshop will create awareness about our attitude and behaviour towards international development cooperation and the attitude and knowledge our partners in Ghana have towards development cooperation. It will examine new and alternative ways to communicate in Ghana as well as in the Netherlands. The solution focused strategy will be introduced as a technique to create ownership and to let our partners in the South come up with their own solutions. The new Dutch policy on NGO’s will be discussed as well.
Workshop 5
‘Ghanaian Chiefs in the Netherlands, as managers here and in Ghana’
This workshop will be presented by Ghanaian Chiefs living in the Netherlands and centre on their role here and at home in Ghana. How do they interact with the Ghanaian community in the Netherlands and how do they manage the situation in their constituency in Ghana.
Workshop 6
"Domestic Accountability" the Case of the GSFP.
This workshop will be jointly presented by the Dutch Embassy in Accra and their partners from SIGN, SNV and/or ECDPM in The Netherlands. It will aim to bring participants up to speed on the most recent developments in regard to the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) and especially to introduce the two-year pilot Domestic Accountability Programme recently developed to accompany the GSFP’s implementation. It will also provide both Dutch and Ghanaian organisations with up-to-date information on how best (and in what areas) they can support the effective implementation of the GSFP at both national and local levels.
