A perfect gateway to Africa
Ghana’s popularity as a holiday destination is rising: from luxury beach holiday to cultural and adventure travel. The destinations vary from an organic cacao farm to an elephant safari on foot, from the vast plains of the savannah in the north to the Unesco Heritage: slave forts on the palm beach. The San Francisco based Ethical Traveller included Ghana this year on its select list of 10 developing countries that attract tourists based on ethical values. With a strongly growing economy, no mass tourism, English as the official language, diversity in destinations and a safe and stable environment is Ghana the ideal tropical eco destination for 2010.
Ghana Tourist Board opens office in Europe
Ghana is the first African country to have a full scale tourist office in The Netherlands. In September 2009 Ghana Tourist Board opened it first office abroad. It is based in The Netherlands using the Dutch name “Ghana Verkeersbureau”. The Verkeersbureau is targeted on the destination branding for Ghana and distributes material and news of tour operators and Ghanaian destinations to the European consumer market and press. Ghana choose The Netherlands as basis fort his office because Dutch travellers are considered trendsetting in the eco travel market.
Best Travel Guide 2009
The opening of the ´Verkeersbureau´ was marked by the launch of the travel- and cultural guide “Ervaar Ghana” (In English: “Experience Ghana”), which was promptly nominated as "Best Dutch Travel Guide of 2009". This award is presented annually by the seven specialist travel bookshops in the Netherlands. Experience Ghana gives (cultural) background information, practical tips and includes beautiful pictures. The handy and colourful guide explains Ghanaian culture and society for travellers and leads the way to 39 appealing eco destinations. In 2010 Experience Ghana will become available in English and German.
World Champion Football?
October 16th 2009 Ghana became World Champion Soccer for players under 20 years. The team defeated Brazil in the finals after penalties. Ghana continued its success by making it to the final of the African cup this January. So expectations are high for the upcoming World Cup in South Africa. Ghana will be in the pool with Australia, Serbia and Germany.
